Willmar Community Education is not taking registrations for this course. The Driver Discount Program is a state approved accident prevention/insurance discount course that is open to the public; pre-registration is required. A MN Highway Safety & Research Center certified instructor teaches this class. Participants will be provided the latest information in regards to driver and traffic safety, new vehicle technology and updates with traffic laws. People ages 55 and older who complete the course qualify for an appropriate 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years. First time participants must complete the initial 8 hours of training and a 4 hour refresher class every three years to maintain the 10% discount.

  • AquaTots

    Summer session #1: June 17-18, 20-21 and 24-27, 2024 Summer session #2: July 8-11 and 15-18, 2024 Summer session #3: July 22-25 and 29-August 1, 2024 AquaTots: ages 1-4 (with parent/guardian) The purpose of this class is to provide a confidence-building experience while guiding adults in helping their child explore the aquatic environment through water play. Swim diapers are required in the pool for any children that are not yet potty trained. A parent, guardian, or household member (at least 15 years old) must accompany the child in the water. Session 1 2:35-3:00 PM S24-SWIM-AQUATOT-1/2:35 Session 2 1:00-1:25 PM S24-SWIM-AQUATOT-2/1:00 Session 3 11:40 AM-12:05 PM S24-SWIM-AQUATOT-3/11:40 Tadpole: ages 4+ This class introduces a child to a structured lesson with an emphasis on having a fun and fearless experience. They work on getting face wet, basic float techniques, rolling from front to back, and more. Safety skills include asking permission before entering the water and using a lifejacket. No prior swimming lessons required. Octopus: ages 4+ Students will work on the fundamentals of the front and back stroke using a combined arm/leg motion and learn to achieve independent floats. The desired outcome is for the student to be comfortable with less instructor assistance. Safety skills include calling for help, throwing assists, and treading water. Prerequisite: Must be comfortable putting face in the water while doing assisted front float. Jellyfish: ages 5+ Students continue to work on the front and back stroke, working toward swimming 10 yards with face in the water and without assistance. Safety skills include treading water and survival float. Prerequisite: Independent front and back float. Seal: ages 5+ Students will work on freestyle and backstroke with an emphasis on rotary breathing, body roll, and arm extension. Safety skills include using a lifejacket. Prerequisite: Be able to swim 10 yards independently with face in the water (no doggy paddle). Sea Otter: ages 6+ Students continue to refine freestyle and backstroke for the full length of pool and butterfly is introduced. Safety skills include learning how to help others in an emergency. Swordfish: ages 6+ Students continue to refine freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. The breaststroke, open and closed turns are introduced. Safety skills include water safety concepts, treading water, and survival float. Unsure of your child's swimming skill? Let us help you determine the appropriate swim level for your child in our program. Please call 320-231-8492 for more information. Registering for a wait listed class does not guarantee you a spot. Our swim lessons are held at the Willmar Middle School pool. Please access the Middle School pool by entering through door #22 on the east side of building (facing football field), then go up the steps to pool entrance. Cancellations at least 5 business days prior to the first class will receive program refund less a $10 processing fee. Cancellations fewer than 5 business days prior to the start will receive a refund for half the class cost less a $10 processing fee. We reserve the right to adjust the length of classes, combine classes, or cancel classes with low enrollment.

Bring your questions about: optics, apps, feed, books, bird houses, IDs, feeders, on-line resources, and more. The birding community is very welcoming (they even let our instructor in). Come join us! The instructor has donated his time to lead this class to keep participation accessible for all. We request that you please make a donation to support one of these local organizations: Hawk Creek Animal Shelter, Kandiyohi County Food Shelf, or the United Way of West Central Minnesota. Food or item donations may be brought along to class if we can assist with the delivery.

    Our mission is to provide a safe, caring, and fun environment for children that meets social, physical, and emotional needs through a variety of experiences and activities. We will encourage children to make positive choices while promoting self-awareness, fostering creativity, and providing leadership opportunities. We offer homework help, crafts, activities, organized physical activities, outside time, social opportunities, computer lab, science experiments, cooking projects, and so much more! Once a month, we collaborate with 4-H/University of Minnesota Extension to offer a fun alternative to our regular programming. We are open holiday breaks, during late starts and early releases, and on days when school is cancelled. All non-school days must be registered for separately.     The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute provides everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The YouTube “vlogger” style presentation brings a youthful, high-energy spirit to the program content and the colorful magazine format of the student book makes learning fun. From getting started with your business, working with parents and children, key safety caregiving and first aid tips, CABS will set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and successfully complete the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Students attend class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen.

    Build a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders! Whether this is your first Code Championship event or if you've been competing for years, this is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of Code Championship. No previous coding experience necessary. This Code Championship Series is a series of four tournaments in four weeks (it's ok to miss one or two). These tournaments are hosted online using Google Meet and the Code Championship website. If you have a browser like Chrome or Firefox, no additional download is required. Please come knowing how to navigate the internet with basic typing and mouse control skills. The link to the Google Meet event will be emailed two days before the tournament.
