    Summer session #1: June 17-18, 20-21 and 24-27, 2024 Summer session #2: July 8-11 and 15-18, 2024 Summer session #3: July 22-25 and 29-August 1, 2024 AquaTots, ages 1-4 (with parent/guardian) The purpose of this class is to provide a confidence-building experience while guiding adults in helping their child explore the aquatic environment through water play. Swim diapers are required in the pool for any children that are not yet potty trained. A parent, guardian, or household member (at least 15 years old) must accompany the child in the water. Tadpole, ages 4+ This class introduces a child to a structured lesson with an emphasis on having a fun and fearless experience. They work on getting face wet, basic float techniques, rolling from front to back, and more. Safety skills include asking permission before entering the water and using a lifejacket. No prior swimming lessons required. Octopus, ages 4+ Students will work on the fundamentals of the front and back stroke using a combined arm/leg motion and learn to achieve independent floats. The desired outcome is for the student to be comfortable with less instructor assistance. Safety skills include calling for help, throwing assists, and treading water. Prerequisite: Must be comfortable putting face in the water while doing assisted front float. Jellyfish: ages 5+ Students continue to work on the front and back stroke, working toward swimming 10 yards with face in the water and without assistance. Safety skills include treading water and survival float. Prerequisite: Independent front and back float. Seal: ages 5+ Students will work on freestyle and backstroke with an emphasis on rotary breathing, body roll, and arm extension. Safety skills include using a lifejacket. Prerequisite: Be able to swim 10 yards independently with face in the water (no doggy paddle). Sea Otter: ages 6+ Students continue to refine freestyle and backstroke for the full length of pool and butterfly is introduced. Safety skills include learning how to help others in an emergency. Swordfish: ages 6+ Students continue to refine freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. The breaststroke, open and closed turns are introduced. Safety skills include water safety concepts, treading water, and survival float. Unsure of your child's swimming skill? Our swim lessons are held at the Willmar Middle School pool. Cancellations fewer than 5 business days prior to the start will receive a refund for half the class cost less a $10 processing fee. We reserve the right to adjust the length of classes, combine classes, or cancel classes with low enrollment.

    Our mission is to provide a safe, caring, and fun environment for children that meets social, physical, and emotional needs through a variety of experiences and activities. We will encourage children to make positive choices while promoting self-awareness, fostering creativity, and providing leadership opportunities. We offer homework help, crafts, activities, organized physical activities, outside time, social opportunities, computer lab, science experiments, cooking projects, and so much more! Once a month, we collaborate with 4-H/University of Minnesota Extension to offer a fun alternative to our regular programming. We are open holiday breaks, during late starts and early releases, and on days when school is cancelled. All non-school days must be registered for separately. Refunds will not be given for pre-registered non school days. Your child will need to bring a home lunch. Morning and afternoon snack is provided.     The goal of Kids Together is to provide children with a fun and enriching preschool program that will enable them to enter school with the necessary skills, behavior, family stability and support to progress and flourish. Kids Together curriculum supports a child's individual developmental stage of learning. We integrate opportunity for social, emotional, physical and intellectual development and enhancement with 2, 3, or 4 days per week options. Program runs September to May. Information and applications for Kids Together are available in the spring of each year. Scholarships are available for qualifying families.

    Come and explore your senses while you make kinetic sand, mold your imagination and let your creativity flow! We will be using regular household items to make this fascinating substance. It’s mesmerizing, satisfying, and once in your hands you can’t put it down! Explore, shape, slice, scoop, squish, smash, and flow again and again!
  • Let's Propagate Plants!

    Looking to expand your indoor plant collection? Create new plants from existing plants! In this hands-on class we will propagate plants by taking fresh cuttings from established houseplants. Course fee includes plant cuttings and growing medium. April: begonia species August: philodendron species
  • Lifeguard Training

    Become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED- valid 2 years. Attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. This is a blended learning class with approximately 7 hours of online course work required before the first day of in-person class. Age Prerequisite: Must be at least 15 years old on or before the last day of class. Skill Prerequisites: Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke. Must demonstrate rhythmic breathing. Goggles may be used. Complete a timed skill sequence including a 20 yard swim, retrieve a 10-pound object from a depth of 7-10 feet, swim 20 yards on back holding the object, and exit the water within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Goggles are not allowed. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Participants need to bring swim gear (no bikini suits), towels, 3 ring binder, pen, highlighter, lunch and snacks each day. You will be in and out of the pool throughout each class so extra dry swim suits and towels are helpful.

    Join Spotlight Theatre Workshop for a brief acting lesson, fun craft, and a little singing and dancing! We will learn how to be a star while listening to the songs of Wish and Encanto. Students will have the opportunity to be featured in the Friday, June 21st showcase as well (encouraged but not required). This course is for children who have not yet been in kindergarten. An adult family member or guardian is required to be present for this class.

    Join Spotlight Theatre Workshop for a fun and intense week as we put together a fully staged musical in just five days! This is an excellent opportunity to be in a production with all the elements of theatre. We will audition, learn dances and songs, wear great costumes, and put on a great show for the community! Our tsory is based on the classic tale, The Emperor's New Clothes, but with a twist. Wardrobe mishaps and malfunctions will replace some of the more embarassing story details in the original. All experience levels are encouraged! Please bring a bag lunch.

    Get outside for this all day adventure! Enjoy some of Prairie Woods’ favorite activities by spending the day at the outdoor climbing wall, swinging high on the Flying Squirrel, paddling the Lake Florida slough, shooting archery, fat tire biking the trails and, if there’s still time, shelter building and fire starting at survival class. Bring a sack lunch, snacks, and a water bottle. Meet at PWELC Farm site.

    Middle Fork Crow River Watershed District and Prairie Woods ELC are partnering to get people out on the Crow River in New London! We will provide canoes, life jackets, and river knowledge for the paddle. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult.

    You’ve learned the basics in the 101 class, now let’s put your skills to the test with a full investigation! We'll split into groups to investigate and then come together at the end to compare notes. Please bring any equipment you may have to use during class, some equipment will be available to borrow as well.
